New Toys

Went a little wild at the store today. I found a panasonic waterproof dustproof cam corder on sale for 25% off and they gave me 35% off, then i found a sony point n shoot (Daddy took mine) for $125 25% off (no, for some reason i was so excited to find them on sale, i only asked for an additional 10% off on the camcorder. don't ask why. of course, i'm totally bummed about that extra 10% now, but it didn't even cross my mind when i was buying it. duh. i hate afterthoughts.) anyway, got them both for a super duper deal. like getting the camera for FREE with purchase of the camcorder. so i'm doing some testing to see if i really need both... they both have their ups and downs. please let me know what you think! i'd love your input in making my decision. i know what Daddy will say "keep both" and i'm sure Dad will say the same....

Panasonic camcorder:
it's the smallest cam corder i've ever seen and it's red (hello cuteness!)
has 4 stars out of 5 on most reviews i saw
it is waterproof to 5 feet for a half hour (great for all those days at the pool)
it is sand and dust proof (great for those days at the beach)
it takes pretty decent video (see example below for some cuteness from the tots)
takes still images (although they're crap and only 6x8", it still has the option)
loads super easily to iMovie
we've never had a cam corder before, bc we just saw little use for one. do any of you have one? do you like it? is it worth buying over a regular camera that also takes video?????

**edited to add: took the camcorder to karate tonight and made some videos of the class (thanks, P!) i like it a lot. think i might keep it. crappy still shots and all.

Sony camera:
it's tiny and cute also and silver
has 4.5+ stars on all reviews i saw
it has a few scratches on it (hence the discount)
it has some really cool features like face and even smile detection
takes video (still waiting for battery to fully charge, so images posted later)
loads easily to mac, or so i read
ok, so is the video quality good enough to return the panasonic and just keep the sony? what about the water and sand option? does that matter???
just realized that this one is missing the case it was supposed to come with and the strap. bummer.
**edited to add: finally got that battery charged up, there are images on it from the guy who used it for a week and returned it. i bought it as a new item, no markings on it saying it had been returned. totally bummed. a pixel in the monitor is blown (my guess is the guy dropped it), and it's got scratches all over it. might take it back and just wait til the future to see what other cameras get reduced. i don't think i want to keep a camera that was dropped... who knows what else internally is broken!
**found this camera on Adorama (in pink!) for only $99 w free shipping. no way i'm keeping the used one for $94! that was an easy decision!

now... do i keep the camcorder?!
